Blessings in a Backpack – Feeding The Future of America
Blessings in a Backpack is a national organization that was founded in 2005 with the goal of providing kids on the free & reduced meal program food to eat over the weekend during the school year. Today they are feeding over 60,000 children in 544 schools in 42 states. The program is based on the power of $80 – which feeds a child on the weekends for the 38-week school year.
Our Mission: Blessings in a Backpack partners with America to ensure impoverished elementary school children are fed on the weekends throughout the school year.
Our Vision: Better test scores, improved reading skills, positive behavior, improved health and increased attendance have all been attributed to the success of this program.
The Modesto chapter of Blessings in a Backpack was started in 2012 by Jeff & Britta Foster. In 2013 they will be supplying food to over 574 kids at three different local schools. They hope to continue to grow the program and feed more local kids.
