Family Promise of Greater Modesto opened its doors in 2005 in response to the need for homeless families in the Greater Modesto area to have a shelter where they can stay together as a family unit while rebuilding their lives.
We are comprised of a network of 12 hosting congregations and 3 supporting congregations who donate their facilities as shelter for these families. Over 500 volunteers are united in the mission to help these families overcome the hurdles towards self-sufficiency. These congregations and volunteers offer their facilities on a weekly rotating basis to provide shelter and food to the families we serve.
While this team of volunteers shelter guests with companionship, meals, support and compassion FPoGM staff work with the families to develop realistic goals that will help move them to more permanent housing. Case management helps guests find and keep jobs, begin savings plans and practice budgeting, teach Life Skills classes and connect the guests to available resources in the community. Many families have been successful in returning to self-sufficient living.
